I’m not sure what difference it makes if we think of it as a mental or physical illness. The need for effective treatment would be unchanged, as would the efficacy of the known treatments. So it seems to me you’re only invoking mental illness as some sort of attempt at an insult.

Well, then I have good news! There are effective treatments that are safe and usually quite inexpensive. Hormone therapy combined with social transition, in particular, is well studied, inexpensive, and works extremely well for most patients.

Furthering the butchery of who they are genetically is NOT therapy and only furthers their own self abuse. They will never become the opposite gender and this eventual realization is why their rate of suicide is through the roof. They need to be stopped before they get this far.

Evidence based medicine says otherwise. I don't think you're being very objective- letting your feelings about the issue interfere.

You mean the statistics that show depression and suicidal ideation reduce with treatment? I’m not sure if you haven’t looked into this or are confused. It’s clear that transition substantially improves outcomes in these patients.
