I didn't want to be transgender. There was a time in my life when I would have done anything to avoid the conclusion that I was a transgender man.
I have a very minimalist philosophy when it comes to medication, and I'm terrified of surgery. If there was something other than transition that could have worked for me, I'd have preferred it. If conversion therapy worked, I'd have signed up without a second thought.
How my country responds to the fact of my existence is up for debate. But my existence as a transgender man isn't. It's a fact, one I had to deal with and one that other people have to deal with now too.
I get that it's hard and complicated and messes with a lot of your basic assumptions about science and what it means to be a man or a woman. I really do. I get it more than almost anyone. But, it's not a choice I made. I would never, ever, have chosen this.
Your choice, as a cis person, isn't about whether to humor me or accept my ideology. It's about whether or not you're willing to deny my existence because it's easier and more comfortable.
