Yeah, like every time we debate whether 'they' is a singular pronoun in English: 1. Yes, yes it is. 2. Most people already use it as such ('whoever left their hat') 3. Even were that not true & it was invented yesterday, IT WOULD STILL BE VALID FOR PEOPLE TO USE
