I had no idea how quickly I could come to love a 17 year old and think of them as my own.

For us, it's been an incredibly positive experience. Sure, there are hard things. Emotionally hard and other things that are more just annoying. But it's incredibly rewarding. We get back more than we give.
There's a particular need in this county for people who will take older queer teens- who very often have few other issues but are hard to place due to being queer. We work with Redwood Community Services, which is the LGBTQ friendly agency for this area.

Lady I know who grew up in foster care here has horror stories about f-ed up ppl she was placed with (she's straight) Her best experience was w/ a SUPER religious family... -
...And I wouldnt consider those ppl 'good' at all! (SUPER judgey & condemning of all sorts of things -- the kind of "Christians" who love CONDITIONALLY, in contradiction 2 that religions teachings. Like too many do!) Think a lot of foster families here are more like that, sadly.
