Not nearly as humiliating as admitting I was trans in the first place. Believe me, I considered the possibility that I was wrong. But, the possibility of relief of my symptoms was a chance I had to take. And, I'm so glad I did. Finally living GD is really great.

I don't know what generalizations you think I'm making about which kids. I've been saying, consistently, that I'm all for research into which patients with GD will be helped by transition.

Explain why? If I had a bacterial infection would it make sense to identify all possible options other than antibiotics first? If not, why wouldn't transition, the only treatment that has been shown to work, be the first treatment option explored for persistent, consistent GD?

I'm arguing by analogy- but there are plenty of symptoms that a person self-diagnoses and then purchases treatment for. Headaches, heartburn, difficulty sleeping, yeast infections... are you categorically opposed to over the counter medication?

And one of the reasons some meds are not OTC is bc self dx isn't considered safe.

Of course- and HRT is not OTC. I was just pointing out that self diagnosis is hardly unheard of in medicine- it's a daily normal thing. It was being made to sound like some wild, insane idea that patients would notice their own symptoms and seek treatment based on them.
