Here are two things that can both be true: 1. Trump is a symptom of pre-existing political dysfunction and systemic breakdown. 2. Trump is an unusually bad man to be president, especially at a difficult time.

People often set these in opposition, but there's absolutely no need for it. Massive systemic problems pre-dated Trump, and also he's a much worse man for the moment than almost any alternative you can imagine.

People say, basically, that Trump isn't the problem, he's a symptom of larger issues. I'm saying yes, he is a symptom, but that doesn't make him less of a problem on his own.

I certainly agree they both true, though. And sadly there are a load of unfortunate truths about our society and about Trump beyond this two, too.
