Dean candidate (DC) had just sort of fumbled a question about minorities and science (IMO) during presentation. I asked a follow-up question, and DC didn’t hear me clearly. Instead of asking me to repeat the question, the candidate said “sorry, I don’t speak spanish.”

To clarify, my question was absolutely not asked in Spanish.

Toss up. Invited talk, early audience member: "who's got their big girl shoes on?" or job talk (on attention and consciousness), one of the few women faculty: "you seem to be arguing rape victims enjoy re-experiencing trauma." In both I felt pretty cringey the rest of the talk.

Answering a question in Q&A from Dana Scott at an ASL meeting, not realising who he was, and replying by talking about some really interesting recent work by Dana Scott that he might be interested in. At the end of my answer, he replied, ‘Thanks - I’ll look into that’.

I am in physical pain for you.

Not sure if this the most cringe but at a job talk a professor fell asleep in the front row, this was routine behavior on his part, I was warned it would happen and that he would ask a question at q&a anyway. This was standard in the department.
-
Even if that is not the most cringe that is deeply, deeply cringe.

In a course I was TAing, a grad student had missed an assignment deadline and complained about it to me. I wrote to the Prof as a heads-up, "You'd think a grad student would be able to read and tell time." Only I didn't send it to the Prof; I sent it to the student.

A colleague once had a student email him complaining that 'work of his calibre' was 'clearly an A', but he couldn't even remember the student, so he forwarded to our administrator saying 'can you look this cocky fucker's grade up for me?' Except he replied instead of forwarding.
