Exactly. NO medical treatment should be performed on an infant, unless it is to prevent a clear and imminent threat. It's a violation of bodily autonomy! Are you with me?

Yes. Plus I hear keeping your foreskin makes sex more pleasurable and that is definitely an important factor.

@politicoid_us I think you meant to say no nonmedical* or nontherapeutic surgeries should be performed on infants before they are at an age where they can consent. Routine and ritual circumcision inherently violate the Hippocratic Oath.

What is a non-medical treatment? A treatment that does not provide immediate improvement to existing symptoms?

Same with "therapeutic." What exactly do you mean?

Nontherapeutic is a synonym of nonmedical. When you say, "NO medical treatment should be performed on an infant", that's implying that all routine circumcisions are performed for medical reasons when they are not. Many are cut "to look like his dad" or "looks like an anteater".

Systematic review does indicate that circumcision does act as a prophylactic.

I wish they banned circumcision in my country when I was 9 yrs old. That circumcision hurt like hell! And there was a big tough guy holding my hands and upper body during the procedure. It was akin to torture!

circumcision was meant to stop penis infections from sand and mites and anything else that could get under the skin while living in sand dominated areas.

And in any region with running water, routine circumcision is completely irrational and unethical.
