    In MA, their requirements are much more explicit about the body of knowledge required for certification. Compare MD v MA reading specialist requirements. Why do we rely on vague language & ILA reading standards that miss the early literacy components? /4/

    Maryland recently eliminated the 4 required reading courses replacing them w/ less explicit competencies that defer to “national standards” which incompletely describe the components of effective reading. The MD competencies appear to be well intended, but lack clarity on /3

    Love you, but research has proven content knowledge curriculums in building literacy acquisition. It's easy to spout of this stuff, but we need to help kids grow in literacy and "papers, pens, kids, and books" aren't enough.
