By the way, for those not familiar with this group, none of the things on this list are hyperbole. None of them.

"it is Our Sacred Duty to protect the children from Everything, thus ensuring their innocence/purity/etc until such time as they are idk probably 25 years old" yeah but also at that point you're expected to leave fandom, anyone over 25 in fandom is probably a child molester

THIS IS NOT HYPERBOLE, I'm freshly 35 and have been told that I'm too old multiple times. I have asked them at what point they plan to leave fandom then because they must have a set date. I have never received an answer.

One of the smaller things I adore about WisCon is what a fabulously unsafe space it is for these creeps

By the way, for anyone interested in more really good discussion and writing about this phenomenon - mostly from a fandom perspective but this is about way more than fandom - I always always recommend this bloghttps://freedom-of-fanfic.tumblr.com/

One of the things that's most frustrating and vexing about this is that it *does* on first glance run kind of parallel to the Political Correctness nonsense about how awful it is that college kids don't want Nazis on their campus.

In both cases, there is a surface level discussion about how a younger generation of people have absolutely no tolerance for anything that makes them uncomfortable and will viciously attack anyone doing any of that stuff on sight. The difference is that this is *true*.

The other key difference is that while the "anti-PC" crusaders want the "right" to basically invade spaces and hurt people without meaningful consequences, those of us fighting against purity culture and for the right to create transgressive content do want to protect.

I am writing an absolutely horrible Id Fic on AO3 right now. Like, it's ghastly. It's ten kinds of depraved. And I *warn the shit out of people* in the tags, because the last thing I want is for someone to click on it and be hurt by something they didn't see coming.

I support safe spaces. I aggressively support content warnings. I support the right of people to kick Nazis and fascists and racists out of their communities. But I also support my right to have my own space where I can create Horrifying Sin, provided I'm clear about it.

So we do in fact have a generation of people who refuse to allow anyone else to be adults, who demand that everyone else "protect" them by never creating anything unwholesome, who insist that there's a 1:1 relationship between fiction and reality. It's real. It's a problem.
Show this thread -
It's just not a problem in the way the wider Political Discourse is talking about it. Which, as a content creator, troubles me a lot.

And I'm also troubled by how the whole PC bullshit concern trolling is making it more difficult to talk about this at all.

it would be great if one could disregard them but at best they’re annoying and at worst they’re dangerous
