I've written a script to dump all cell records in the ZIP file and print statistics Here is what it shows on my profile, pretty chilling The Ruby script can be found at https://gist.github.com/dylanmckay/2b191a10068bd87d0fffba242db44b52 …pic.twitter.com/jvutJoJ4Lc
Interesting that the timestamps are all in-between November 2016 and July 2017
to see your data go to your facebook settings https://www.facebook.com/settings click 'Download a copy of your data' they'll email it to you once it's downloaded, you can open it to extract all the files out. then open the 'index.htm' file and go to the 'contact info' tab
After checking the data, feel free to fill out this google form I made, regardless of whether you found data or not https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1g_K4yurJqCvBSknQHMdkvX-0zEEA2vMs5ZKnScaQ1mg/edit … all responses can be found herehttps://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSfsvZefdYqGR01-LgJhgxcNufyHSH3R2_N0LNFVA91TNwIBhQ/viewanalytics …
take the responses with a grain of salt though - it might suffer from bias with people not bothering to fill it out when nothing interesting is found, causing it to be unfairly weighted towards "yes, my metadata is there"
My grandmother emailed me this from her data dump sorry for the potato quality (read: what is a screenshot) has a number of SMS records, spanning 2015-2017 claims to not use facebook or messenger apps, I have not verified this thoughpic.twitter.com/Nax5aBUeWQ
I also have these from my grandmother, covering May-October 2017pic.twitter.com/0T5PSmZNKc
This is interesting — I just did the same and none of that info is in there, and I've been using Facebook on my Android phone for years. I wonder if it's because the UK/EU has different personal data disclosure rules? What section of the zip was that all in?
Inside 'html/account_info.htm'. There's an 'index.htm' that serves as a homepage to all of the photos+ads+messages+videos+pokes pages in that folder too IIRC
Just checking, all this with FB installed on a current device? And you getting the data dump from FB (website)? Or FB uninstalled from device and then data dump from FBwebsite?
I've had the facebook app installed on/off, and the messenger app installed constantly for years data dump taken from facebook website. I uninstalled the app after I downloaded the data
Can you work out from the timestamps if it's just the facebook app doing this, or is messenger doing it also?
Yes that would be an interesting data set. Still this is a good starter, thank you @dylanmckaynz.
I've adjusted the script so that it also dumps CSV files for each type of metadata that can be loaded into excelhttps://gist.github.com/dylanmckay/2b191a10068bd87d0fffba242db44b52 …
This is crazy! Is there a way to delete it? Or stop it? Or can you make a program for it please, we need this.
I don't think that's possible - this is a read-only printout of the data The only way to write a program to delete data on facebook is with the API The Facebook Graph API doesn't include anything to do with cell metadata https://scontent-syd2-1.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t39.2365-6/24294776_562888504103031_2312105771610931200_n.png?oh=8bae9786e326f8a64856efc0cd6e3e12&oe=5B3F8CA8 …
This metadata is something they internally use, but don't expose to third-party apps or programs in any way Maybe they can delete it if you email support?
Aah I’ll e-mail them, I can only try. They’re weak now so they better do it.
If you're in the UK, in two months you will be covered by the "The Right to be Forgotten" and they will legally have to delete ithttps://www.dataiq.co.uk/blog/summary-eu-general-data-protection-regulation …
Just wondering if we'll lose this after #BREXIT like we will lose data roaming charges in Europe and lots of other protections.
Yup. As long as you can believe anything the gov has said about brexit.
