Council goes back to review their local plan to make sure they are fulfilling their obligations for pitches at a permanent site and also that they have a plan for those who are still nomadic whether that be negotiated stopping or a transit site.

Negotiated stopping goes something like this: Council asks the Gypsies or Travellers how long they need to be in the area. Council decides on a piece of land they prefer nearby. Council offers bins and toilets for the short time they are there, stops rubbish etc. They move on.

It continues to astound me that these people are so unaware of how clear it is to everyone that they haven’t been near any actual modern working class communities.

V decent turnout for Barnstaple demo today - some top speeches, lots of youthful energy, + a bit of sunshine ✊🌞 ( bit baffled by + not turning up “out of respect “ 😳.... but good to see ND out, as always )

You can’t argue for increased diversity then only act when it’s convenient. Why wait to let the “boring old guys” give us a turn and instead vote for a locally born, young socialist in 2021.

This is performative, it always is when it comes to people talking about young people in politics. They are standing against not only a candidate under 25 but probably one of the youngest candidates in Devon. People “want” young people in politics until it actually comes to it.

Heartening tale of community's fundraising efforts to save 3 fisherman's buildings from endless 2nd home devptmnt. V much hoping they're successful here, but w/ increasing deregulation, 2nd home blight casts ever longer shadow over SW.

Just look at how many of these children with low food security live in Devon - it's simply not acceptable.

Why would you rule any policy (within bloody reason obviously) out for an election in four years time?

There’s got to be an actual point in winning, otherwise you’re just doing it for the sake of it. Who wants to canvass and leaflet for days on end for that?

I understand the desire to immediately win an election but the problem is it eventually leads to completely unacceptable levels of it, as we’re seeing now, where minorities and being thrown under the bus just to gain points in the poll. It’s wrong and grotesque.

I think you began to see this kind of more long term tactic under Corbyn, where polices previously seen as deeply unpopular where becoming widely popular because instead of capitulating, we as a party made the argument and won those arguments.

But this is why the Tories will keep winning and any Labour government that does come about will be immediately undone the second they leave office. I’d much rather lose a few elections to build genuine change then win an election and make minor short term differences.
