Two notes of context first- 1. A lot of this is back of the napkin rough calculations, but you will get the gist 2. I was once a House race campaign manager - overall I was bad at it, but not at this part

The point of raising money the year before an election is to hoard it. HOARD IT ALL! Hoard it like you're Smaug in The Hobbit. The point is not to spend a million dollars to post really flashing headline numbers

That's almost $1 million dollars spent (before the election year!) on Direct Mail, Digital Ads, Media Production, and Consultants (you can see his disbursements here https://www.fec.gov/data/disbursements/?two_year_transaction_period=2018&cycle=2018&data_type=efiling&committee_id=C00647537 …) to raise $2.5 million

Let's compare that to how much some other prominent Dem challenger fundraisers have been spending money in 2017:

All of these candidates have raised over $1 million dollars without having to spent huge amounts of money to do it and have built up their war chests accordingly for an expensive 2018

Bryce has perhaps the most high profile House race in the nation and there's no need for him to spend $565k on direct mail or hundreds of thousands on consultants to raise money

Final note: When compiling these numbers, I didn't include fundraising consultants, research consultants, or any legal/compliance spending. Most races have these expenses and the costs are not that variable

One final final note: If Bryce’s mail/digital ads are: -In district Persuasion - then it’s way way way way too early -Nationwide fundraising - then you’re just spending money as fast as you’re raising it

yeah no. This kind of thinking is why the party is so useless. TV ads in October are a waste. Organizing takes time.

Why @staceyabrams is spending to register and organize and mobilize NOW and why early $ is so important. Don’t wait to max out to her campaign to become 1st Black woman governor in #BlackWomenLead @HigherHeightPAC @HigherHeights
