They asked the presidential candidates if men and women in prison should vote, not if they should be free. Still asking the wrong questions and sweating the wrong answers.

CNN just said Biden is establishing himself as “the grown-up in the race”. How insulting for the fabulous women and people of color who are also running - a reminder of how political media is too male and too white.

"The text in the exhibit is really about money bail...poetry made out of the circumstances that we begin to notice because people are being incarcerated because they don't have enough money to pay that bail." –

This is a disgrace, very common and shows one of the reasons why we can spend a lot of money on programs to help low-income people but see little results. But folks are worried about poor people getting a handout.

But I don’t know. Shit, it’s just a poem. And this is just a rant to be deleted.

Like demand them free in the way that we demand non violent drug offenders free. Shit maybe some of us need to be locked up. I know at least one person that I would put a knife to on sight. I’m not supposed to say that though.

I mean one absolute truth is that I didn’t do those things. But another is that I know plenty of dudes who have. That I’ve done time with them. Sometimes eaten with them without knowing, sometimes knowing. Like killers and shit. And I’m not sure what it means to demand them free.

Of course I resist that. Don’t want to be thought of as the dude selling crack at all, let alone to pregnant women. And in this poem, I don’t want to be the absentee father contemplating suicide and haunted by the memory of assaulting a woman.

Someone read Bastards of the Reagan Era, a reviewer, and wrote that I’d sold crack to pregnant women, because a speaker in one of the poems sold crack to pregnant women. Maybe we are the lives we write out of. Maybe that’s a truer way to think of it.

And the poem, at least for me, is asking me who am I ever willing to admit to being, and what kind of danger is in certain admissions. Especially when most read the poem without knowing you.

I’ve never run from words like convict, Felon, inmate. All that shit is echoing something that is true that we need to figure out, those of us who ran around with guns and dope and thought assault was just a thing that happened.
