#BohemianRhapsody amazing performance from Malek - charismatic and vulnerable, fun music, bit of a weak opening but it managed to recover, great villain, celebratory and lite, lots of stuff clearly not onscreen to keep it family friendly ;-)

#HunterKiller by the numbers military propaganda piece, some decent old school action, surprisingly effective climatic moment that pulled together the plot and theme really nicely

#ErrementariTheBlacksmithAndTheDevil violent and visceral fairy tale that keeps pushing its premise to a powerful ending that sees character+plot+theme+symbolism all working together, strongly political, beautifully lit, felt genuine and unencumbered :-)

#TheHouseWithAClockInItsWalls weird and scary, suffered from overblown stakes and a poorly motivated villain, all three leads were great and I could've just hung out with them a whole lot more, nicely flavoured magic, pretty cool all up :-)

#Venom pretty fun heart-on-its-sleeve comic book movie, felt old school, Hardy's performance was really quite good, Venom made me laugh out loud a couple of times, pretty meaningless ending, not subtle or intriguing but very entertaining

#CentralIntelligence kinda funny, weird lack of chemistry between the stars, huge plot/theme disconnect, whole lot of vapid nothing with a few funny gags, could have down with more winking-at-the-audience

#Anon very conceptual sci-fi, weak and disappointing end, terrible 80s style misogynist gender stuff, never seen so many middle-distance stares, kinda wanted some deeper exploration of surveillance and anonymity

#TheRaid super strong simple and extremely violent action movie, simple character arcs gave the actors room to move, exceptional fight and action choreography, awesome tangible use of grunge and dirt, well worth it!

#CloudAtlas still a seriously cool movie the 3rd or 4th time I've seen it, incredible editing and story construction, great range of performances, not for everyone but I loved it :-) :-)

#SpeedRacer beautiful CGI colours, lovely extreme performances, close study and expression of virtuosity, whole thing was a bit stilted but the final race is a work of genius bringing together theme plot and character wonderfully

#DeadwindS1 fairly strong Scandi-noir, lots of twists and turns but the two main threads didn't link well and so the end lost gravitas, kinda weak characters

#TheLavaFieldS1 ok Scandi-noir, not enough space for the characters so the ending lost its sense of meaning, the detective performed nicely, not very memorable

#ThePredator I liked the conscious comment on the egregious sexism of the first one but it didn't manage to escape it, it really missed the Schwarzenegger charisma, some good action, underwhelming boss fight

#FinalSpaceS1 quite funny and actually quite dark, interesting main character walked the line between annoying and endearing really well, super super stupid humour that made me laugh out loud every episode, so so stupid ...

#RogueOne joined the dots nicely, quite exciting with that good Star Wars ridiculousness, kinda pointless - I'm not really sure what it was about - I think it lost its theme when the last act kicked in

#Bleach very fun adaptation that actually feels like a movie, doesn't quite deliver the bittersweet it promised, great not-dead-yet scene, effects pitched really well, nice world-building

#RevengeOfTheSith pretty good payoff taken in the terms of its trilogy, Vader's tragedy is clear and I felt it but it's super awkwardly told, Yoda should have kicked more ass, it's like there's great movies somewhere in there but they're so badly put together, fun to watch tho ;)

#TheAttackOfTheClones what an insanely creepy 'love' story, fun to see the graphics leveling up, Tem was great, same boring rhythm, strange lack of focus, neat to watch Yoda commanding clones, suffers all the middle movie problems ...

#ThePhantomMenace such a weird political/religious/racist story, great costumes and sets, the CGI looks old but it's so pervasive it doesn't matter, surprisingly flat rhythm, performances set up the three movie arc well, much stronger ideas than filmmaking

#MissionImpossibleFallout great drop-straight-into-the-action opening, nice ticking clock, fun embrace of the ridiculousness, really weak villain storyline, poor structural editing, Cruise still comes off all swarmy but his physical performance is awesome, nicely shot too
