I've heard various reports from people I trust that Signal is compromised. Any comments/thoughts/reliable rumors?

Pavel, even though you took a lot of grief for joining the discussion, I appreciate your input. I will still use both Signal and Telegram.
-
No worries. In case you need more info on how Signal is backed by the US Gov, here's the link from Snowden's thread:https://surveillancevalley.com/blog/government-backed-privacy-tools-are-not-going-to-protect-us-from-president-trump …

this misunderstands how cryptography is evaluated. the criticisms of Tor are known and have been enumerated from Day 1. Signal is clean.

@whispersystems Isn't Signal open source? How can there be a backdoor then that scurity researchers like@matthew_d_green have overlooked? -
How many US "cryptography experts" would "overlook" a $10M bonus from the NSA? Not many, if you look at the pasthttps://www.theverge.com/2013/12/20/5231006/nsa-paid-10-million-for-a-back-door-into-rsa-encryption-according-to …

Honestly, I admire your intentions, but do you really belive that all US cryptography experts are bribed by the NSA?

You said 3 months. What was the date it happened? If you're off by a single day we may all perish. You are, after all, the wingnut that holds civilization together. Also, thanks again for cc'ing me here. Totally necessary both times. Look forward to more chit chat.

Willing to bet $1,000 on that?
-
A backdoor defined as: an intentional vulnerability that gives US gov't privileged access to encrypted communications.
-
I'm not surprised. Pavel Durov is not a man of integrity.
-
He followed up with an offer to bet $1m.
-
If I had $1m I'd take his bet.
-
Me too. Though he hasn't really specified it in a wiggle-proof way. Seems like a charlatan
