It will work, eventually. They were wrong about how quickly the problems would be solved. But there's no way computers won't eventually be better at driving than humans. It's a very low bar that kills thousands per year.

But it will take decades to work out liability. When the first driver-less car kills a human driver on the open road, the court of public opinion will not convict the human- machines won't be able to find a jury of their peers.
