I'm growing frustrated at the final act of Bravely Default 2, but I'm coming to realize my frustration is mostly pacing-related. You're given a bunch of end-game "optional" tasks but no clear order in which to do them, and no content to fill in the gaps beyond grinding.

This is like....the endgame of many JRPGs. It is a system issue throughout the genre. Even many of the best games I've played require it to some extent.

I'm absolutely aware of the history of the genre. I felt BD2 toed a beautiful line of embracing that trend/subverting it for its first five acts, then just fell into the same trap again.

I did the obliterate monster food combo in the area right before the first ending. It was definitely grundy but once you hit level 80 it's actually pretty hilarious to watch these things just instantly blow up.

Wasn’t this a similar issue with the first game?

I think arguably yeah. I really liked the set-up of the back half of the first game because of the mind game it was playing with the player, though.

i'm in the middle of c3, playing on hard, have only "grinded" by finding every chest and accidentally touching a monster or two on the way... i found that on the three fights i've lost, a quick retool of my party let me squash the boss. so yeah i agree re "grinding"

but i also 110% believe that the end of a bravely game is gonna suck... sigh, same as it ever was
