I said this in a reply to someone else but real quick: games media crunch being commonplace doesn't make it any less abhorrent, shedding light on it helps to de-normalize it and expose how much harm it does. this whole damn industry has needed a reckoning on this for a hot minute

the answer is complicated but I would suggest that there are many reasons, including many publications being global, using a lot of contract/freelancers, high turnover, and being owned by much larger corps with their hands in a lot of other industries (making a union ineffective)
