I'm actually pretty curious about people's thoughts. If you run a Discord server with more than 50 people in it. How much drama do you have to squash in there? How often? How much time do you spend making it safe for folks? Really curious.

Run a server of about 230 people. My general philosophy is to 1) make clear, broad rules against bigotry/shittiness/inappropriate content and 2) appoint mods I trust to be good humans and give them the freedom to act on those rules and know they'll have my support

we get a troll about once every month or so who shows up and gets insta-banned, and every once in a while have a member cause an issue where we'll pull them aside and explain why their behavior isn't acceptable -- they always are cool about it.

the ultimate goal for me is to make sure the community feels safe. I don't really care if something isn't explicitly laid out in the rules -- if someone feels hurt or unsafe or gross, then we immediately do something decisive about it. I trust the mods and have their backs.

I don't know if this falls apart with larger groups, though my experience on online forums with large populations is that it actually still works, you just need to appoint a proportionate amount of mods and work harder to communicate with them.
