i innocently thought that I'd make myself a PK Fire to sip on while i waited for the other recipe I'm doing today to set. then i read the recipe and realized it's a dang shot of cinnamon whiskey with cinnamon candypic.twitter.com/LSkucR3rtM

The second of the cookbook's four backer recipes: Dawn's Green Goop. A staple at church picnics in the Midwest, I ate a lot of this growing up, though I helpfully just called it "marshmallow fluff." It tastes like summer.pic.twitter.com/drjAT5klGQ
Today's late lunch/early dinner is a gooey bowl of Arlene Woodruff's Mac & Cheese -- the third of four backer recipespic.twitter.com/WEOvR6nArn
Sorry to be slowing down on these folks. I'm very near the end and a lot of the remaining recipes require trips to specialty stores for ingredients, and I'm trying to minimize grocery trips due to COVID.
This morning, I put together "Tony's Birthday Cookie Cake." I don't know anyone named Tony, but it was my good friend Kam's birthday today, and he deserved a big frosted cookie, so.pic.twitter.com/pzvanw1D4t
Hahahaaha I *tried* to make Sincerity Dumplings but glutinous rice flour is tough to work with! I could not get them to be Round. :) Look at these goofy goobers.pic.twitter.com/4FnUatJxr9
Doggy Biscuits were made tonight! Now I just gotta find a good doggy to give them to. :) This recipe is specifically for dogs. I did try it, because the rule is I have to try everything in the cookbook. They're....bland (no salt or sugar!). But there's a pleasant aftertaste???pic.twitter.com/rhZhx9WHEi
(did I make dog biscuits shaped like cats? shutupyesididgoaway)
now that I'm down to single-digit numbers of recipes remaining I'm cognizant of the fact that the Grand Finale Recipe is......fast approaching
Invoking the rule that "as long as I *try* to make it, it counts" this week was Hot Dog Sushi. Known problems include using the wrong rice, not cooking the rice correctly for sushi, and not having knives sharp enough to slice nori. However, these trash bits tasted great!pic.twitter.com/riHdD1Aat9
What came out far better was the Molokhia Soup! I finally managed to find some molokhia leaves and the soup recipe is really easy and tasty...and I think maybe reasonably healthy?pic.twitter.com/hJmgtebEEH
The final backer recipe is Bob Binkley's Pineapple Bread Pudding. I'd never made a bread pudding before, so this was another learning experience. With pineapple, you *really* have to drain the juice to make sure it sets correctly. As is, this was more like an odd, tasty cobbler.pic.twitter.com/fZbaUjGUsl
So, this is where I tell you I have failed. When I said "five recipes remain," I was counting the fact that I had already started on Rock Candy. Unfortunately, the Rock Candy failed miserably, and I have no photo.
Per my own rules, if I attempt it, it counts. I definitely effed up by running out of sugar three-quarters of the way through making the solution and deciding it would be good enough. it wasn't. oops. :P
However, I did the Abstract Tarts today and they came out really well! I actually didn't do the art on top because I couldn't find fondant and icing dye at my normal grocery and am trying to minimize trips, but these are REAL GOOD.pic.twitter.com/EfZzt9jYRh
Haha, it was just the Third Strongest Drink -- aka a Long Island Iced Tea (except we had no ice, whoops. Sorry I'm butchering so many of these homestretch recipes! I promise the final three will be fantastic) (er, well, one of them will :P)pic.twitter.com/YFzeh25gE9
I'm super excited for the one I'm doing today. I've been looking for prickly pears for the recipe literally since I got the book. I finally found them by chance while at the store today, just after I had caved and ordered the syrup off Amazon instead.

so,the Popsicle recipe definitely wanted me to use a different style of mould, but this was all the store had and I am trying really hard to minimize trips. this has prickly pear juice and lemonade in it :)pic.twitter.com/LkGzcFF1zj
funnily, the employee I asked for help in finding the molds for popsicles said "I don't think you'll want this kind but this is what we have" and ironically, a cactus-shaped mold is perfect for a cactus fruit flavored popsicle!
I love nothing more than finishing off a cookbook with a big goofy cake recipe. This is a white cake with strawberry frosting and filling, and pink lemonade swirled into the cake batter. I'd make it again sans the pink lemonade, but the frosting is to die for.pic.twitter.com/3oCPl6y8Tn
I'll be back in a few hours, friends, with the final recipe of Mother's Cookbook! uh, i hope (it's the hardest one, so)
well I already ruined it haha. got TOO IMPATIENT and turned up the heat on the syrup too high and it got too hot too fast, so it hardened really quickly in the muffin tins and wasn't workable.
syrup consistency is WAY better this time, I didn't overdo it, phew
I DID IT! KIND OF! ALMOST! I GOT WAY TOO EXCITED AT THE END AND LOST TRACK OF MY STRANDS SO IT ALL FELL APART. BUT I ALMOST MADE PINK CLOUD COTTON CANDYpic.twitter.com/k0r22HK213
hand-pulling cotton candy is SO HARD omfg but it was REALLY FUN to watch the strands suddenly HAPPEN
