that has never stopped businesses yet. I can well see some mid-tier executive touting the immediate savings benefit without dwelling on the more gently accruing downsides, being convincing, and bang Here in the UK it happened about 25yrs ago when call centers all went to India

A call centre is a commodity. The kind of software engineering Google does in-house is not. Very different logic applies from a management perspective.

we can agree on shouldn’t. but I think there’s more than enough examples to ahow it ain’t so. most companies view staff as a comodity. It’s always a trade between cost & quality. if cost can be reduced now then there will be some companies that take that route.
