Caught up with Letterkenny last night. Even after 8 seasons I still, each episode, wrestle with how I feel about it. It has some incredible high points and regular moments of hilarity interspersed with ongoing jokes that don't quite land or characterizations that miss the mark.

BUT, what I do love is how it successfully riffs on its central conceit: "If a friend asks for help, you help him." What if it's not a friend, but someone you kind of vaguely dislike? What if your friend has hurt you? What if your friend is acting against their own self-interest?

wanted to correct this because they actually say "them" not "him," Letterkenny is mostly good about that kind of thing and tries pretty hard even though it has a few moments where I was like "agh stop what are you doing"

I loved it for the first few seasons. But what ultimately turned me off was that they had a moment where they seemed to want their characters to change and grow, but instead backed away and just made them more themselves. And those jokes are all played out

I agree with you mostly? I think what redeemed it for me over time was that later on, several characters were given opportunities to stay true to the values they had expressed earlier in the show in spite of difficulties, and watching them go through that was satisfying.

Yeah, I still think it's charming and well-written, but I felt like I was seeing the same things every season by season 6 or 7, so I just felt no need to keep watching. I tried Littlekenny and it was disappointing for the same reason - the same jokes and characters, just younger
