I think the Animal Crossing backlash is interesting, especially when viewed as a decision point. Down one path, we have AC as it is and always has been. Yes, there are deviations in this version, but the loop is still there.

Down the other, we have a path that would require ongoing development and, therefore, monetization. I’m not sure that AC players would be on board for a core game in the series being converted to a DLC or service model.

Granted, the first event was not great. It disrupted rather than enhanced fundamental systems for nearly two weeks of play during the launch window. And even with that, many players have 100+ hours logged (myself included).

I broadly agree with this thread! something I'd add about Bunny Day: this game was not intended initially for a spring release. the original plan was NOT to drop a million eggs in the middle of everyone's second/third week or so of gameplay.

my guess (based on nothing) is that we would've had a late summer/early fall release and had a few months before the first holiday event, which would've been Halloween, which has historically been super fun and beloved. Bunny Day has always been a bit of a joke.

anyway yeah, AC has inadvertently benefitted from all this commercially, no doubt, but I think...I guess spiritually or whatever, maybe the game suffered for its timing.

It’s been so interesting to watch. I hope that as people move forward they will remember the joy that they got from it.

all this combined with it being the first AC game we were all able to share our progress in to social media almost instantly......yeah, same. or maybe return in a few weeks/months and take it slower?
