Not specific to this, but it's been frustrating to see publicly dunking on well-intentioned people making mistakes used as a first resort when there's an error of any kind.https://twitter.com/GeorgeOsborn/status/1225045948025446400 …

Having both done this and been on the receiving in, I've been trying to be more mindful of when it's a good idea to drag folks (outright bigotry, doubling down on harmful mistakes when politely corrected, having a history of shitty behavior) and when it maybe just causes hurt.

Funny, I have a thread all queued up about this very thing. Not sure what's prodded so many of us to feel this way as of late, but you're not the only one I know who has posted something like this. Dunk culture is mean and exhausting for no more than clout and it makes me sad.

Honestly my feelings are selfish. It's embarrassing when I make a mistake in an article and I want to be corrected. But I am terrified of being dragged halfway across Twitter and back for something I'll frantically fix the second I become aware of it.

But I do think there's value in having a public forum where you can point out genuinely stupid or shitty or awful things that powerful people are doing or saying deliberately and making sure they're called on it.
