Internet of Things gets me irrationally frustrated about the tech industry as a whole. Why does everything have to be Bluetooth enabled

Some things are like "haha okay but why do I need an Android-enabled always-online fridge" and funny but others are like "I have to have a monthly subscription to use the always-online gym equipment that I have purchased for my home" and shitty and stupid.

Also, like, I'm not as against IoT as a lot of people are, but I draw the line at inviting spying devices into my home where I can.

Sorry to interrupt -- wanted to add that I think it can be frustrating to see big tech using millions of dollars to develop nonsense that's only for rich people rather than using resources and similar inventiveness to make, like, shit that actually makes the world better

for sure, that's absolutely true. I kind of like to think how these inventions can be good from an accessibility perspective (there was one that went around awhile back that was being mocked and someone pointed out how it's beneficial but I can NOT recall what it was)

Yeah, there's a LOT of those where people will mock endlessly but people with disabilities will be in the back like "Hey, this is actually amazing for my quality of life" and be ignored

for sure, there's def a tendency to mock stuff seen as "useless" by able-bodied folks that's actually a huge boon for folks with disabilities, but I also think it's fair to question who the audience is for really rich bored people making, I dunno, what appear to be furry roombas

though if someone comes out and informs me that the furry roomba looking things are actually something super helpful for folks who need them I will retract this gladly
