I'm on Witcher ep 6 and I absolutely adore this show. The directorial vision that allows the characters to express an interiority of their worlds on screen is not something I expected to see for a mass-market IP internationally renown for its game. The intentioned framing.

It's so nice to see how much trust seems to happen between the showrunners/directors and actors, because you can see those well-paced moments where you see so many complex gestures & emotions and the directors don't cut away. It leaves me shaking with how much humanity's shown.

There's so much film formal texture in Witcher that made me take a step back and think, whoa, that's *fun*. It's a heady combo of big budget, genre, & recognizable IP fanbase, while using some indie film techniques that's more common to film scholars' curriculum than mainstream.

And it's fantastic because it's so accessible even as it's challenging fun, and feels like a rewarding puzzle. It's wonderful to see how the story keeps getting more complex episode by episode, that as we get more answers we get more questions.

I like that I'm thrown into the deep end, that when characters talk about politics or "the lore" they're not accommodating me, and as a result I'm privy to their gravest mistakes and their most intimate moments. I like that they award my patience and openness to their change.

It also appears so very self-aware and *funny*, that the times that there's exposition it harkens back to the tone of either a play (Jaskier) or a game (Geralt marching up to the innskeeper to ask apropos of nothing in a quest request-like tone? Hahaha, amazing). Geralt: "Hmm."

I've seen some folks worried it doesn't explain enough about the world and as someone coming in with zero knowledge I am totally fine with like "a Witcher" being "a dude made by magic with powers that kills monsters." I don't need much more! That's fine!
