So one of the fun things about cooking through these cookbooks is that at least once or twice per cookbook I learn something about food availability that I did not otherwise know. In the WoW Cookbook, I learned that true haggis is banned in the US!

I thought cranberries were going to be my block for TES, as three of the final five recipes contain them, but those will come around toward the end of October start of November. However, as I try to finish the remaining two, I'm discovering a more problematic ingredient: venison

I grew up in Kansas, a city girl but friends with lots of folks who hunt. I've never had venison personally but I know so many people who'd talk about it I just assumed it was a thing you could get anywhere. Not so!

Venison apparently has some pretty specific USDA requirements surrounding its sale, and so it's not often sold at retail. Most of its sale goes to specialty restaurants or really, really specific stores. Regular grocers don't carry it generally.

Anyway, I'm currently looking for a store in the Kansas City area that carries venison, but I'm not having much luck. If I can't find one, I may need to pester
@InnAtCrossroads for a suitable substitute suggestion. :)1 odpowiedź 1 podany dalej 3 polubionePokaż ten wątek -

Good to know! Their website didn't mention it, so I assumed not, but I'll give them a call today. Thanks!
