People keep expecting press conferences not done by Nintendo to be Nintendo-Direct-level good and get mad when they get let down by what are perfectly fine presentations.

Nintendo has been doing these for like 5 years (iirc) and they haven’t always been good. Stadia Connect and State of Play are gonna need to find their own way like Inside Xbox has been. Mostly though, fans need to learn not to expect insane megaton announcements every 5 min.

I disagree with this. Sony isn't in uncharted territory here. If they wanted to present more or better things, they just...could. The roadmap is there. The lack of a good show isn't doe-like naivete, it's that they started it in the middle of a generational transition.

I think you're ascribing things to inexperience when they're actual choices the presenters have made.

sorry I RTed the first tweet and missed the thread. I agree with the initial statement but I do think the issue isn't that Sony is wandering around aimlessly, it's that the show isn't designed for mega-reveals. It's not the same thing fundamentally. Same with Inside Xbox.

So, is what it actually is useful for the audience? Or would it be better off being the other thing the audience is actually expecting?

I don't think it *can* be the thing the audience wants rn due to, as Imran mentioned, the console generation changeover. Will be very interested to see if either shifts in 2020, especially assuming Sony returns to doing Big Announcements at Big Shows.
