I've been thinking about whether violent video games cause mass shootings. Personally, I don't buy it. But if we regulate games, proponents will see firsthand there's no link, THEN we can try actual gun control. How might this look in practice? Total ban? Stricter buying rules?

This pretty dramatically misses the fact that it's not about blaming violent games or anything in particular, it's about deflecting the issue OFF guns. So no, this wouldn't solve it. At best, they'd find something else to blame, while more people got murdered while we sat around

I mean, what are the common scapegoats? At present, it seems like video games... are people still mad at metal music? Anyway, start restricting them piecemeal until there's nothing left but guns, and people will be forced to admit their error.

And how long will this take? How many shootings are we going to have during that time? Do you think, after seeing the last year, two years, four years, ten years of the group responsible for defending guns, that they are the kind to "admit their error" for any reason?

At present, the plan is to do absolutely nothing anyway, so there are going to be mass shootings either way. At least this way, there will eventually be a stop to them. And when confronted with hard facts, people HAVE to admit errors. Doesn't matter how proud they are.

And your argument about hard facts rings naive in a year where politicians and lawmakers have thrown fact after fact out the window to maintain a shitty status quote.
