Piling on the hot takes: I agree for the reasons in this thread, but also others: balancing competitive is a mess with so many mons, and the Dex is getting wildly inaccessible to those joining in the later gens.https://twitter.com/caspiancomic/status/1138937410664972288 …

Second: I used to finish my Dex in Gens 1 and 2. Now? it's TOO FUCKING MANY POKEMON. Yeah, I get it, it's meant to be a challenge, but it's not a reasonable one unless you're super duper dedicated. You can't even catch em all in the wild - you have to spend hours trading online.

With a reduced Dex, it seems more reasonable that you can finish it in game with maybe a handful of trades with friends, which is way closer to the original vision of having two versions (still dumb but that's a different argument) and trading with a friend.

having a NatDex is a bad move for folks who care deeply about the game, but I guarantee the vast majority of fans will not notice or care and may even find it rewarding in some way. it also lets Game Freak design new mons without stressing over what gaps are left to fill.

anyway that's my take, I'm still going to be really sad when they say Mareep is out because they put a new sheep in to replace her, but the game will be fun as hell anyway and we will all have a new Pokemon love at the end of it. The end.

The new gen alone already has /four dogs/. The series has enough recoloured dogs, we could use a few less recoloured dogs.

I agree but this is a bad example because there are never enough dogs, but also you're right
