They were, fortunately, kind enough not to say anything in the moment, and kinder still that one gently mentioned it to me after, then told me a similar embarrassing pronunciation he had once made to make me feel better!

I'm sorry for laughing but this is hilarious. My mother always mocks people for mispronouncing words, so I'm super sensitive to it & tend to overcorrect. I always want "gallant" to sound vaguely French (gah-LAHNT) and I want medieval to have four syllables. I KNOW better, but++

it makes me just avoid those words entirely. I once got caught in a superficially polite "Let me correct you by repeating that word, with the PROPER pronunciation" regarding 'amen-able/ameen-able.' I hated the jackass so after two passes I called him out. "You seem to be trying++
