This was a frustrating read. When asked about crunch, E3, loot boxes, the WHO's addition of gaming disorder to its compendium, and the Variety report, Pierre-Louis downplays everything, then says the most important thing the ESA can do is make video games seem nice and positivehttps://twitter.com/GIBiz/status/1127974289796358145 …

I get that there's a level of corporate publicity speak you're going to run up against when you talk with a CEO, but his answers are just profoundly boring and shallow to basically everything here.

They have no incentive to fix this and or address it because a)they were setup to protect publishers and b) our government has tendency to care about profits over ethics. However, you are definitely aware of this so... Don't know why I'm here cx

They definitely have incentives to fix some of this, especially with looming loot box legislation from the US government. That one in particular will hurt publisher profits if it takes the government to step in. The ESA is not a government organization.

I know that, but you are talking about a capitalistic system that has been driven-by short-term gains for shareholders trump long-term viability. Incentives was the wrong word, but the capitalistic dogma these corps operate under is antithetical to those actions.

I would argue that with the current legislation we are no longer talking about long-term, but short-term. This has so many callbacks to when the ESA was formed to avoid government legislation on violent games. Either they do it themselves, or the government imposes a shit system.
