Agree with Kat, and would add that there's value in coverage from angles of inexperience. If a skilled reviewer of strategy titles loves a strategy game, that tells me nothing. If someone newer to the genre loves a strategy game and finds it accessible, I might look into it.https://twitter.com/The_Katbot/status/1114220530679214081 …
I think this jives a bit better with my general feeling though which is that game reviews are all too similar in general and I wish every dang review didn't go through the same formula of story, controls, gameplay, visuals, one paragraph about what was bad, then a score.

I can’t say I’ve read a pure-checkbox review (story, graphics, audio, gameplay, etc.) in a while. I guess I don’t read those outlets. I do read (and write) genre- or franchise-expert reviews because that’s the audience I am part of/want to serve.

That's great and I'm glad! But this reply seems somewhat patronizing! I read reviews from most major outlets every time I do one of our critical consensus pieces and there are definitely patterns in how our industry reviews - as well as superb outlets who break those patterns.
