Tales of Vesperia being a bit older hasn't bugged me until this morning, when I died stupidly in an unimportant fight that occurred one huge boss battle and several cutscenes after my last save. As far as I know, there was nowhere to save before Unimportant, Dumb Fight.

So now I have to do it all again. The boss battle wasn't challenging, but it plus the cutscenes was time-consuming. It's a small thing but when it happened I just shut off my Switch because I didn't feel like repeating 30 minutes worth of doable content right then.

JRPGs are strange, long things and it's interesting to see what bits of them newer games try to smooth and streamline, and what tedious bits the genre giants still find important.

Like, Tales games haven't had random encounters in...forever? But by eliminating them, the game leaves it up to the player to guess how much they want to grind to tackle the next boss fight (those wolves at the end of Ehmead Hill, holy crap)

Yeah, that's the one boss every player has trouble with... Now you know firsthand how brutal some of the boss fights are :<

That was really scary! Good to know everyone struggles, I thought I was just underleveled. I ended up leveling everyone up once, cooking, and shutting off all Rita's spells except Fireball to get it. ;)
