show wants it both ways: teasing you that it has a strong suspect! then stepping back to examine the self-deluding pathologies of the investigators committed to that suspect (whose relationship to the making of the doc is very ambiguous: are they subjects or producers?)

so i looked up why BLIMPS are called BLIMPS and the various tales (via etymonline and wikipedia) are extremely inadequate and unconvincing to me! i do like the guy who says "what else wd you call them?"

(this is a teeny bit unfair, he was also a founder member of the much-missed sociological magazine new society, which was swallowed up by the -- much worse -- new statesman in 1988)
