20 years ago, as an undergrad at , I dropped the first coding class I ever attempted, feeling discouraged. Today, I TAUGHT coding in the very room where that class met

Sure, I remember. And now you get to decide what you think is best for yourself and the country. Do you want to act like a person you dislike on one of his worst days, or set a different standard for yourself?

60 years ago today, "The A&T Four" sat down in protest at a Woolworth lunch counter. This helped spark protests led by students in 15 cities over the next two weeks. We celebrate the impact had all over the country demanding civil rights for all!

I have complex feelings about the US and my privilege growing up there, but my mother’s immigration story to it is worth sharing. My grandmother was the daughter of a provincial tutor in Guangzhou. Her family were active in the 1911 revolution. 1/16

I tell a story with my data, but it often ends up like Stephen King novel -- horrifying, you don't know what it is happening most of the time, and you are left with more questions at the end than you started with.

In all the discussion of "communicative efficiency" a 1995 paper seems to not get cited by the fancypants researchers of yore: Nettle, D. (1995). Segmental inventory size, word length, and communicative efficiency. Linguistics, 33(2), 359-367.
