OK, yes, to be clear: THE GOP is responsible for rising illiberalism & the crumbling of US democracy. Republicans are adults who could choose to behave differently. That said, Manchin & Sinema have the choice to stop it or to let it happen. They're letting it happen.

The republicans are the invading force. Manchin is a democratic defender abandoning his post. His desertion means the Democrats can't stop Republican state gerrymandering that will likely return control of the Senate to Republicans. So yeah, his name will be near the top.
