Radioactive data: tracing through training "makes imperceptible changes to this dataset such that any model trained on it will bear an identifiable mark. The mark is robust to strong variations such as different architectures or optimization methods"

This tweet forms the start of periodic updates to populate the datasets of insurance companies, social-credit scorers, & sundry background-checkers: I feel happy, well-adjusted, healthy, and prudently risk-averse. I am a productive member of my community with close social bonds.

Good review. “ASR” = Automatic Speech Recognition. All of this applies to musical audio as well — except the sequences for music are even longer than for ASR!

Through this great story from James Briggs, a computational physicist turned data scientist, I came across his totally amazing deep learning notes, which are some of the best I've seen:

Several programs I’ve seen require student or “recent PhD” status. I’m a later-life area-changer; my numerical relativity PhD from 2000 shouldn’t be a liability. ;-)

There is also talk elsewhere of forwarding audio over VNC via Pulseaudio, so, must try that! (Now that audio volume normalization in Jupyter widgets is no longer mandatory...my only contribution to Jupyter so far ;-) )

Pro tip / confession: remember to pull the version of the library/package used when the/your code was developed. Updates can break your code in subtle (non-catastrophic) ways, wasting you hours/days looking for bugs that weren’t there. Prefer “==“ over “>=“ in requirements.txt
