It's my birthday, so I'll write slightly self-indulgently angsty notebook posts if I want to.https://notebook.drmaciver.com/posts/2020-05-18-09:41.html …

https://notebook.drmaciver.com/posts/2020-05-19-09:35.html … It's tempting to complain that the audience is reacting unfairly to you, and maybe they are, but if you want to actually achieve something you need to work with the audience's reactions as they are rather than demand that they react differently.

Bonus post for today, as I try to articulate one of the things about the pandemic that's been causing me the most difficulty recently.https://notebook.drmaciver.com/posts/2020-05-19-17:31.html …

Misc thoughts on the interplay between moral development and emotional health, largely overspill from drafting the next newsletter post.https://notebook.drmaciver.com/posts/2020-05-20-09:54.html …

Here's a bonus notebook post about how I (mostly, with caveats included in post) fixed my anxiety.https://notebook.drmaciver.com/posts/2020-05-20-17:58.html …

"How to read a book" thinks it's important that you should know what type of book you're reading. I think this is mostly a waste of time and you should engage with books on an individual basis.https://notebook.drmaciver.com/posts/2020-05-21-09:32.html …

We think of the emotional structure of morality as mostly about negative reactions to our moral failings, but there are also positive reactions to our moral successes, and focusing on those will help drive us to be better people.https://notebook.drmaciver.com/posts/2020-05-22-09:34.html …

There are foundational skills that we don't notice we're bad at because by the time we start feeling the effects they're thoroughly entrenched, so we think of them as intrinsic features and/or the effects of ageing. Using your feet right is one such skill.https://notebook.drmaciver.com/posts/2020-05-23-09:31.html …

Hmm I should look into arch exercises and maybe the toe straightening stuff - anything stand out as particularly good? I have flat and generally rather crap feet and should be nicer to them given I like walking so much

Things I am currently somewhat confident in: * Paying attention to your arch position when standing and deliberately raising them (and standing enough to practice this). * Barefoot shoes * Tennis ball foot massages (ow) Not yet sure any of the toe straightening stuff works.
