Tweet length version:
1. Give talks that are weird and interesting, not talks about seemingly safe (and thus more likely to be boring) subjects.
2. Get good at speaking time management so you don't overrun.
3. Do 
not read out your talk.
4. Don't take questions.
'Don't take questions' is an interesting one. Never seen this (only been to academic conferences) but definitely for some types of talks it seems like more of a ritual than actually useful. And yeah a lot of questions are crap.
Yeah, I don't think you could pull it off at an academic conference. Academics really like their ritual savaging of the speakers and get cranky if you tell them they're not allowed to draw blood.
I might have to go to a tech conference some time just to see the cultural differences/get exposed to other ideas on how to do talks. I'm involved in some workshops that are very different to normal physics culture but we're probably missing some good tricks.
