This is a good question. What books have you read that you disliked but would still recommend?https://twitter.com/madeofmistak3/status/1109205177448448001 …

Now I need a list of books that people don't like but they still recommend.

"Conditionally recommend" I guess. There are a lot of books I disliked but would under some circumstances recommend, but I can't think of any that I would say are *definitely* worth reading.

Examples for me: * "The Body Keeps the Score" (which prompted this) * "Every Cradle is a Grave" * "Shop Class as Soul Craft" All quite annoying and/or wrong, but interesting perspectives that I'm glad to have read.

Under what circumstances would I recommend these? Um. Pass. I'd have to know you quite well before I could directly recommend any of them. I think for starters I wouldn't want to recommend them to anyone I thought wouldn't recognise the ways in which they are flawed.

Yeah, I can't decide whether The World Beyond Your Head counts as an answer to your question. I mean I definitely disliked it, and I definitely learned things from it, but I can't figure out who I'd recommend it to.

I guess for all of these my answer is "past me". i.e. I don't regret having read them, so clearly a recommendation to past me would have been appropriate. I've recommended both "Shop Class as Soul Craft" and "Every Cradle is a Grave" to select people.

I haven't recommended "The Body Keeps the Score" to anyone because honestly why would I bother? Everyone who might want to read it has already had it recommended to them by about four people.
