At first reading, this sounds like what had been the mainstream philosophical view for centuries before Lenin? (Cf. Rorty's _Philosophy and the Mirror of Nature_.)

You're not necessarily missing out. My take is that the most important thing about such experiences is how they kick off some kind of psychological maturation process, and many people, yourself included, seem to be doing fine without it.

Some of those experiences are fun, but seem to be also dangerous. My hypothesis is that they have something to do with upticks of serotonin which is structuraly similar to DMT. One can get "too happy" so to speak (after my first one I ended up with a psychotic break).
