Going to be off Twitter and my usual blogs and so on for February. Been a while since my last month off, feels about time for another one.

Petition to make write about all three of these, so I don’t have to watch youtube videos or read Garfinkel

This is great and has made a few things fall into place for me. Now thinking about the connection between indexicality and my own favourite bit of horrible jargon, cognitive decoupling. Both are to do with amount of context but how much do they overlap?

So alt-research support should identify the activation energy barriers and lower them…

A model I like: research fields form as positive feedback loops around little nuggets of insight that get amplified. There's a potential barrier (several) to get over to get that feedback loop started. And so there's zillions of proto-fields that could but don't get started

Thought it'd be fun to get out a post while I'm here. Complete with some sophisticated images.

I'll try and write a proper thread beforehand, but hopefully the basic idea is clear. Prospects and obstacles for taking all this online creative ideation energy and getting to something more solid and lasting than insight porn.

Ok this is tomorrow. As below I'll happily blather about whatever but thought it'd also be good to have a default topic. Which is: 💩➡️📖 The Shitpost-to-Scholarship Pipeline 💩➡️📖 a stupid term I made up.

I'll be at this on Friday 17th and hopefully some of Saturday too, rambling about my normal twitter/blog topics and whatever else people want to discuss. Looking forward to meeting some people from here!

Hardcore conversation about Deleuze and Guattari going on behind me on the bus. Unusual.

Here's my extended critique of and (indirectly) on GPT-2, as someone who grew up reading them. tl;dr: deep learning *has* followed the programme of The Algebraic Mind, yet no one's circled back to collect the psycholinguistic insights

Just learned that my dad kept some of the wonderful 10p-a-sheet bargain rack wrapping paper I bought as a teenager. Spot the hidden message

I think shitposting is a blessed epistemic mode and pretty much what learning looks like

Also the photographer generally doesn't have the right grip on what we'd label as the objects in the photo - they're at an angle, or in the corner, or blurry. Rectangles make this more likely to happen maybe, as the symmetry is so easily broken?

There are some competing geometric orders, tendrils-of-mess style, but not enough to be a mess. Just looks dull instead somehow?

I was scrolling through these last night and now I really want to know the take on the aesthetics of uninteresting photographs. Lots of rectangles in there!
