CDC now helpfully providing real-time info about all respiratory infections at a community level… & state and local public health departments are in the best position to evaluate the capacity for care. In many communities across the US, healthcare already is overwhelmed.

This winter, early surges of RSV & flu, overwhelmed emergency rooms & Children’s hospitals & an expected COVID surge, mean masking in public makes sense and will work to slow transmission. Heed the advice of state and local public health!

My choice to do that. Each minute of exposure increases risk; it’s not all or nothing. I go out & travel, a lot. Attended a meeting, at CDC, last week. Vaccination status was confirmed. Symptoms were checked daily. Masks were required when not eating. Yes, we protect ourselves.
Quote Tweet
Though CDC has aligned COVID guidance to meet where most Americans are, there are some who promote continued restrictions.
Are they consistent themselves, always masking indoors, forgoing indoor events/dining, etc? If not, hypocrisy fuels further distrust in public health.

nytimes.com/live/2022/06/3. SCOTUS ruling curtails EPAs authority to regulate pollutants to protect the earth’s climate. This will cause unconscionable delays. given the serious public health impacts! EPA did have authority under the Clean Air Act to take action.

Though the safety and effectiveness of the vaccines are quite impressive, I've seen a more fundamental question.

Thanks you and DOJ for this action. nytimes.com/2022/04/20/us/ This is a pandemic. We are tired but there is still urgency to protect the most vulnerable, prevent surges of cases. CDC does have authority to to protect our health, including masking in public transportation.

4/ To quite, “you are enabling all of us to do the work that we want to do while also keeping ourselves, and our families, safe.” Ignoring transmission rates & leaving masking to individual choice allows the virus to continue to evolve new variants, and puts many at risk.

/1 We do this in the spirit of precaution .. in the context of lots of disruption created by COVID isolations…. With finals around the corner. We also need to be concerned about our colleagues, many who are immunocompromised — for whom it’s not “mild” & vaccines don’t work.
