Great Q : Why has the CDC stopped monitoring breakthrough infections, except in severe #covid19?
Answer from : Asymptomatic or mildly symptomatic people carry very little virus, so focus will be on infections severe enough to cause hospitalization/death.

Adding important clarification (thanks for pointing out): the answer from specifically referenced that vaccinated people who are asymptomatic or mildly symptomatic carry little virus. Still, need clarity on why total #s of these are not tracked.

Thanks for posting this
For clarification (because this is exceedingly important in the context of the last year+) the was specifically referring to vaccinated individuals who are asymptomatic or mildly asymptomatic. Not unvaccinated ppl.
Correct?

Correct. I would be curious for your thoughts, . Should fully vaccinated people be tested for #covid19, even if asymptomatic? What if they are contacts of those who test positive? Should there be routine screening of those vaccinated?

But that leaves out symptomatic infections, not severe, that are not getting tracked. These are important to track and sequence whenever possible (enough virus) to learn about variants. Big hole in plan

This makes no sense to me. I keep hearing this statement, but what data backs up the last statement? All along we've been told that asymptomatic/pre-symptomatic transmission has been significant. Is there a reason why this should be different for infected vaccinated individuals?

Yes. If you are infected but vaccinated, a PCR will still detect it but it’s likely your viral load won’t get as high. Asymptomatic infection in someone who is entirely susceptible can have very high viral loads just like a symptomatic person.

but isn't that potentially bad because what if some of the variants in the future cause more severe symptoms? wouldnt it be better to be tracking asymptomatic & mild cases now so that there is more knowledge about amount of breakthrough cases? why commit to learning less?

Breakthrough infections not a major concern. I would like to continue to see more data (including which vaccine) for breakthrough transmissions so we can know how rare that really is. Will give those of us with small children more confidence we won’t bring back home to them

Where does double masking stand? Is that still advised for those who have to wear masks?

That...doesn't sound right. What am I missing here?
