Maybe identify the knowledge first? Son has been reading up on the origins of 'IQ' tests and says if we can't define intelligence in humans, what makes us think we can define it in machines?

I agree with you! But we’re not trying to define (or create) intelligence in the case of applying machine learning.

I agree that we cannot lose sight of humanism when we design and apply AI, but it’s hard to define and understand “real world” problems where AI may have an impact without sufficient data - so I think the we can take a data-first, human-focused approach that is synergistic!

Ah, I agree. But I also don’t think we can understand real-world problems unless we look at the human context first. Contextually, I don’t think we should collect data until we know what and why we’re collecting.
