He was incredibly generous to read and respond to a random email from a small press. Loved getting the (ok, a little terrifying) chance (so, thank you for that) to communicate with him. Legend is the right word. RIP.

Between cooking and xtreme lyric – that’s Redemption in Indigo! This is why I love and trust the reviews of poets. Not only telling the truth, but telling it with such playful grace and beauty. RIP Kamau Brathwaite. Thank you for being our literary legend.

I was wrong. Kamau Brathwaite was known for a generosity exceeded only by his genius. This is what he said in full:

I will always be grateful to for asking Kamau Brathwaite to blurb Redemption in Indigo. When my editor Gavin Grant first suggested it, I was terrified. I couldn’t imagine that a literary legend would have the slightest interest in a debut fantasy novel.

"Brathwaite argued that the iambic pentameter embodied the British language and environment; it was not a meter that could carry the experience of hurricanes, slavery and a submerged African culture."

We’re at the launch of , where Jeremy Poynting of is talking about the vital role of literature in maintaining the kind of society we want to live in; not letting forces at play “turn the clock back”

This poet, this man, so beloved and revered. I'll never forget the awe of hearing that he took his whole class at NYU to Barbados. What generosity, what love of place, to dislodge conceits of how and where poetry is made.
