Hi, I’m a geneticist, and not that Rowling will care but others might 1) sex is real 2) it is not binary 3) sex and gender are different things 4) gender is also not binary 5) trans rights are human rightshttps://twitter.com/jk_rowling/status/1269389298664701952 …

If sex isn’t real, there’s no same-sex attraction. If sex isn’t real, the lived reality of women globally is erased. I know and love trans people, but erasing the concept of sex removes the ability of many to meaningfully discuss their lives. It isn’t hate to speak the truth.

In all that JK crap, there also an epistemological things that drives me crazy. The thing is the use of "real". What the heck it means? Trees are real, and we did not make them; money is real, and we made it up. Real is not big thing. But her "real" is normative, not descriptive.

In terms of separating out sex and gender — please consider it eventually results in, e.g., calling trans woman's body parts "male" which is at minimum wrong and at maximum abusive. Body parts should be best seen as the same sociocultural gender of their owner IMHO.

Humans have gender, because it is psycho-social-cultural construct. No other species have genders because they do not have the level/type of cultures humans have. They have sexes.

To be fair, Butler isn't the most readable thing in the world, but yeah... JKR is problematic in a number of ways, a lot of racism and antisemitism in her books too.
