Well, I haven't seen this in a code of conduct before: ... Deny oneself in order to follow Christ. Chastise the body. Do not become attached to pleasures. Love fasting. Relieve the poor. Clothe the naked. ... https://sqlite.org/codeofconduct.html …

You may be in for a fair amount of heartache, I'm afraid. A code of conduct for a software project which explicitly excludes Muslims and Jews is a slightly tone-deaf PR move in 2018.

Slightly?

@DRichardHipp Thank you for your nearly two decades of generosity and dedication to SQLite. I suspect my spiritual views are much closer to@bitfield's than to yours, but the positive impact that your beliefs have brought to your life and lives close to you appears undeniable.Thanks. A CoC is to protect people from being discriminated against based on their sexual orientation, their gender, their race or other traits. Not to push bigotry.
-
uh no I think that's what civil rights legislation is for. code of conduct is a code that dictates how to conduct yourself in an environment. I mean yeah I get that you guys lately have twisted the meaning so unrecognizably, but Richard Hipp is in the right here, fundamentally.

Imagine someone involved with the project abuses or harasses me. What do I do about it? The CoC puts the onus on me to make peace with *them* "before the sun sets". It doesn't say what to do to to make it *stop*. it doesn't say what the project will do about such behavior.
-
It's not really your intent behind the CoC that matters. It's whether it is fit for purpose. Your CoC says to shun arrogance. But is it not arrogant to create a CoC like this solely and explicitly so you can say you have one, without consulting those it is supposed to protect?

I am a Christian, and I still don't know if you're joking or serious, but either way, I am appalled.
-
Oddly, I'm in the opposite position. I'm something like a Nietzschean animist, I detest Christian theology, and yet I admire Sqlite's Code of Conduct. Just reading it makes me want to be a better person (not more Christian, mind, but healthier and more pro-social).
